Duane Davis named Professor of Jazz Voice at WMU

Duane DavisThe Jazz Studies Program at Western Michigan University is proud to announce that Duane Shields Davis has been hired to succeed Diana Spradling as Professor of Jazz Voice at The School of Music at Western Michigan University. Professor Davis recently retired as Director of Vocal Music at Grand Rapids Community College and is internationally recognized as a vocal jazz educator.  In addition, Professor Davis serves as the Dean on the staff of the Steve Zegree Vocal Jazz Camp.









Miles Brown Named Oakland University Jazz Director


Miles Brown
Last August 12, 2009, Oakland University officially welcomed bassist-educator Miles Brown as the new OU jazz studies director.  He replaces the late Danny Jordan in the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance.  Brown holds music degrees from the Eastman School of Music in jazz performance and the Mannes College of Music in classical bass performance.

Brown will make his OU jazz debut leading the OU Jazz Band and OU Jazz Singers in concert Tuesday, November 11, 2009 at 8 p.m. in Varner Recital Hall.
