Michigan IAJE Executive Board Meeting
January 25, 2008
Michigan Music Conference, Grand Rapids @
1:00 pm

            --Minutes--

Present:  Danny Jordan, Bill Sears, Bob Nixon, Rich Fanning

President Jordan:
Welcome board members.
Our Fiscal Chapter report can be found in the General Board meeting minutes.
Would some be able to volunteer to send our webmaster a report of your experience at the past IAJE Toronto conference?  Rich Fanning volunteered.

Why
was attendance low in Toronto?

Rich Fanning:
Economic issues - Canadian dollar stronger than the U.S. dollar.  The performers were heavily comprised of Canadians.  Less exhibitors

Are MMC and the IAJE reading band paying $110 registry?

Bob Nixon:
Perhaps vendors should pay but those providing a service (like the IAJE Reading Band) should be exempt from a presentation fee.

MMC should have an official Jazz Day. Some topics:
1.    How to run a rhythm section?
2.    What is Improvisation?
3.    How to rehearse a Big Band?
Question:  Does this proposal go through Mr. Paul Stanifer?  Answer: Yes

Bob Nixon and President Jordan;
Shoot for the stars and perhaps we’ll get the moon. In other words, propose as many jazz topics and clincis as possible for the Jazz Day (the Thursday before).

Rich Fanning:
Some high school band directors face personnel challenges like many drummers and guitarist but no bassist.

President Jordan:
I need to follow up with Paul Stanifer this week to pound out a possible Jazz Day for next year's MMC.
Thank you all for attending.  Send me an e-mail with your ideas. I will respond quickly.

Respectfully submitted,

Scott Cowan
Secretary
